While we eat meat in my house, I love to incorporate meatless recipes to switch things up and infuse more variety into our diets. I try to make at least one vegetarian meal a week, and they’re always meals I look forward to serving and eating!

  • Use complementary proteins – many plant-based protein sources aren’t complete protein sources on their own. This means they must be paired with complementary proteins in order to provide our bodies with all 20 essential amino acids. Try pairing items like beans and lentils, grains and dairy, and dairy with nuts to create complete proteins. 
  • Include variety – just because we’re eating plant-based doesn’t mean our meals have to be boring! Mix and match a wide variety of ingredients switching up colors, textures, and flavors for meals you look forward to eating. 
  • Embrace sauces, spices, and spreads – vegetarian meals are a great way to experiment with different flavor combinations. So, go ahead and load up with all your favorite flavor-enhancing ingredients! 
  • Focus on balanced plates – vegetarian meals can sometimes be pretty carb-heavy, but don’t forget to include fats! Focus on building a plate with protein, carbs, fats, and fiber to stay full and satisfied.
