Olive oil: Unlike traditional coleslaw, that uses mayonnaise as the base, this red cabbage slaw has a lighter oil-based dressing.

Apple cider vinegar: to give the dressing a little tang, we’re using apple cider vinegar.

Maple syrup: this adds the perfect touch of sweetness to the dressing.

Celery seed: this gives the dressing that classic slaw flavor.

Dijon mustard: a little dijon mustard helps to thicken the dressing and add some great flavor to the cabbage.

Red cabbage: for this recipe you’ll need 16oz of shredded red cabbage. Feel free to buy a bag of pre-shredded carrots to save yourself some time.

Carrots: they add a bit of sweetness, color, and extra crunch to the slaw.

Green onion: I love the flavor of green onion in my slaws and I think you’ll love it too!

Ingredient Substitutions

Olive oil – you can swap the olive oil for avocado oil if you prefer.

Vinegar – I love the flavor of apple cider vinegar in this recipe but you could swap it for white vinegar if that’s all you have.

Maple syrup – don’t have maple syrup? you can swap it for honey instead.

Cabbage – feel free to swap the red cabbage for green cabbage if you like.

How to Make This Slaw with Red Cabbage

Step One: Add the olive oil, apple cider vinegar, maple syrup, celery seed, and dijon mustard to a mixing bowl.

Step Two: Whisk all of the dressing ingredients together until everything is well combined.

Step Three: Add the shredded cabbage, carrots, and sliced green onion to the mixing bowl and toss until well combined. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
