An Easy Gluten Free Appetizer: Healthy Buffalo Chicken Dip
Buffalo sauce and chicken go together like peanut butter and jelly! A few of my favorite recipes on All the Healthy Things involve buffalo sauce like these Grain-Free Buffalo Chicken Bites or this Healthy Buffalo Chicken Salad. But, there is absolutely nothing like a good buffalo chicken dip.
If you are anything like me, you may love buffalo chicken dip but do not necessarily love the way the traditional version makes you feel. Classic buffalo chicken dip is usually made with cream cheese and shredded cheese which, if I eat too much, does not always leave me feeling the best.
Thankfully, this healthier version of buffalo chicken dip is completely dairy free, Paleo friendly, and even Whole30 compliant. It is packed with so much flavor from tangy buffalo sauce and spices, that you will not even miss the dairy!
The Ingredients for the Best Dairy Free Buffalo Chicken Dip
This healthy buffalo chicken dip recipe is both a crowd pleaser and incredibly easy to make with ingredients you probably already have on hand. Here’s what you need to whip up this easy dip.
If you prefer, you could also add in a few green onions to the dip if you really love that green onion flavor. Or, you can just add fresh green onions on top right before serving.
How to Make Dairy Free Buffalo Chicken Dip
Making this dip is really quite simple once you have all of the ingredients. Here’s how to do it!
Step 1: The first step in making this dip is to prepare the shredded chicken breast. You can do this a couple of ways. One way, is to bake a pound and a half of boneless, skinless chicken breast at 425 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Before baking just drizzle the chicken breast with a little olive oil and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Once the chicken is fully cooked, use two forks to shred the meat.
Another option is to leftover roasted chicken or pick up a rotisserie chicken from your local grocery store. That way you won’t have to do any extra cooking!
Step 2: Once the chicken is cooked, the next step is to add the chicken and remaining ingredients to a mixing bowl. Then, stir until all of the ingredients are well combined.
Step 3: Pour the dip into a baking dish and then bake at 425 degrees for 20-25 minutes until the dip is bubbly and begins to brown on the top. Remove the dip from the oven and let cool for fifteen to twenty minutes before serving.
How to Serve this Paleo Friendly Buffalo Chicken Dip Recipe
After the dip has cooled a bit, I like to transfer it to large ramekins and top with fresh green onions and a little black pepper before serving. I find that the presentation is a little bit prettier that way. Plus, if you are hosting, you can divide the dip into three or four different ramekins and spread them out throughout the party for serving.
My personal favorite thing to eat this dip with is fresh veggies like celery and carrots. Another great option to serve this dip with is your favorite tortilla chips. If you need to keep things grain-free, these chips are a great option!
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Add the chicken breast to a baking dish and drizzle with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through. When the chicken is fully cooked, remove it from the oven and use two forks to shred the meat.
Add the chicken, mayo, coconut milk, buffalo sauce, salt, and spices to a mixing bowl. Stir until all of the ingredients are well combined.
Pour the dip into a baking dish and then bake at 425 degrees for 20-25 minutes until the dip is bubbly and begins to brown on the top. Remove the dip from the oven and let cool for fifteen to twenty minutes before serving with your favorite veggies and chips. Enjoy!
