Healthy Buffalo Chicken Dip
Buffalo sauce and chicken go together like peanut butter and jelly! A few of my favorite recipes involve buffalo sauce like these Grain-Free Buffalo Chicken Bites or this Buffalo Cauliflower. But, there is absolutely nothing like a good buffalo chicken dip.
If you are anything like me, you may love buffalo chicken dip but do not necessarily love the way the traditional version makes you feel. Classic buffalo chicken dip is usually made with plenty of cream cheese and shredded cheese which, which can make it a bit heavier and not a great option for people who are avoiding dairy.
Thankfully, this healthier version of buffalo chicken dip is completely dairy free, Paleo friendly, and even Whole30 compliant. It is packed with so much flavor from tangy buffalo sauce and spices, that you will not even miss the dairy!

Shredded Chicken: This recipe uses a little over a pound of shredded chicken breast. You can use the instructions below to prep it yourself or buy pre-cooked chicken to use.
Mayonnaise: Use a high-quality mayonnaise that you enjoy the taste of for the best results. I like to use one made from avocado oil.
Coconut Milk: This helps to give the dip even more creaminess without the use of added dairy.
Buffalo Sauce: Of course you cannot have buffalo chicken dip without buffalo sauce. Choose your favorite, dairy-free, buffalo sauce for this recipe. Be sure you are using buffalo sauce and not hot sauce.
Spices: A combination of simple herbs and spices really help to give this dip the best flavor.
White Vinegar & Lemon Juice: White vinegar and lemon juice really help to give the dip that delicious tangy flavor.
How to Make Buffalo Chicken Dip
(Full ingredients and instructions in the recipe card, below.)
Step 1: The first step in making this dip is to prepare the shredded chicken breast. You can do this a couple of ways but my favorite way is to bake a pound and a half of boneless, skinless chicken breast at 425 degrees for twenty to twenty-five minutes. Before baking drizzle the chicken breast with a little olive oil and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Once the chicken is fully cooked, use two forks to shred the meat.
Step 2: Next add the buffalo sauce, mayonnaise, coconut milk, vinegar, lemon juice, and spices to a mixing bowl. Whisk everything until well combined and then fold in the shredded chicken.
Step 3: Pour the buffalo chicken dip into a baking dish and then bake at 425 degrees for twenty to twenty-five minutes until the dip is bubbly. Remove the dip from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.
How to Serve
After the dip has cooled a bit, I like to transfer it to large ramekins or a serving bowl and top with fresh green onions, crumbled blue cheese, and a drizzle of buffalo sauce before serving. Serve the dip with fresh veggies like celery and carrots, and even your favorite chips like tortillas or potato chips.
Tips and Tricks
- Take advantage of a short cut. Use leftover roasted chicken or a store-bought rotisserie chicken to make this dish even easier.
- Don’t like blue cheese? Top the dip with a bit of feta cheese crumbles instead of blue cheese if you prefer.
- Want to add a little extra flavor? You can add half a tablespoon of homemade ranch seasoning to make this a buffalo ranch chicken dip.
