Healthy Grapefruit Paloma Mocktail

This healthy mocktail might be my favorite mocktail of all time. Just because you are avoiding alcohol, for any reason, doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a fun fruity beverage and this one hits the spot every single time. It is a delicious balance of tart and sweet the perfect drink to sip on when it’s hot outside.

Traditional Palomas are usually made with grapefruit-flavored soda, lime juice, and tequila, then served over ice.

This non-alcoholic version combines fresh grapefruit juice, lime juice, sparkling water, to make a refreshing mocktail. Instead of sweetened soda, this drink uses a touch of real maple syrup to sweeten things up a bit.

This recipe is naturally gluten-free, Paleo compliant, and vegan. Make one (or three!) and sip away!

 Mocktail Ingredients

Grapefruit Juice: You can use fresh squeezed grapefruit juice or a cold pressed bottled juice will also work well. If you go with bottled juice, check the ingredients list to make sure that there are no additives or extra ingredients. The only ingredient should be grapefruit juice.

Lime Juice: The combination of grapefruit and lime works so so well. As with the grapefruit juice, you fresh squeezed or cold pressed juice for the best results.

Maple Syrup: This works as the perfect sweetener! Maple syrup easily dissolves in cold liquids which makes it the best choice for this drink. If you don’t have maple syrup, feel free to use a simple syrup or your favorite liquid sweetener. Personally, I like to use half an ounce of maple syrup in this drink, but you can use more if you prefer.

Sparkling Water: Feel free to use plain sparkling water or kick things up a notch and use your favorite grapefruit or lime sparkling water.

  1. Hi! Any tips for making this large batch for a party? Should I add the sparkling water or put on the side ? Thanks!

    1. Ashlea Carver says:

Hi Traci! Yes! I would serve the sparkling water on the side and make a big batch of the grapefruit mixture. Hope that helps!

  2. Any tips on making this a large batch mocktail? Specifically with the sparkling water ? Should I add it in the mix or instruct guests to top their mocktails with it ?
    Thanks !

    1. Ashlea Carver says:

Hi T! I’d make the grapefruit mixture without the sparkling water and instruct guests to top their mocktails with it. That will work best. Hope that helps!

  3. Excellent! Will definitely make again.

  4. I tried this recipe because I’ve been wanting to reduce my alcohol intake and New Years Eve was just around the corner. I used freshly squeezed grapefruit and freshly squeezed lime with the maple syrup and the first time I made it, following the measurements, it was too tart. The remainder of the times I made it, I eyeballed the measurements playing with more or less lime and grapefruit juice. This is one of those recipes where you have to adjust it to find what you really enjoy. Overall, the flavor was nice and light but I’m not sure if I would make this again. Definitely worth trying to see if it works for you.

  5. WOW!!!! This is absolutely deeeelicious. Also lovely topped up with zero sugar lemonade.

  7. Made this tonight as I’m trying to cut back on wine and it’s amazing! So refreshing and not too sweet. I was little skeptical of the maple syrup but it works great!

  8. So delicious! The maple syrup surprised me as an ingredient but it balances the tart grapefruit.

  11. This is an incredible drink – so simple, but such a great taste – and so uplifting. Although I sometimes drink alcohol (my partner does not), we both have been drinking this non-stop, and I prefer it to a boozy version of most anything.
