The BEST Ranch Dressing Recipe
I’m a big fan of ranch dressing, ok? Whether I’m using it as a dip, salad dressing, or if I’m using it a recipe there’s just something about that classic herby ranch flavor that always hits the spot.
I realized I didn’t have a traditional buttermilk ranch recipe on ATHT so that obviously needed to change. This is my go-to classic ranch dressing recipe with plenty of fresh herbs, tangy buttermilk, and creamy Greek yogurt. It’s so easy to make and perfect to keep in your fridge when you need a quick dressing or dip for veggies!

Ranch Dressing Ingredients
Yogurt: I prefer to use whole-milk Greek yogurt for this recipe, but low-fat yogurt will also work!
Mayonnaise: this, along with the yogurt, forms the creamy base of the ranch dressing. I love to use an avocado oil based mayo for this recipe.
Lemon Juice: this adds just the right amount of brightness and tang to the dressing. Be sure to use freshly squeezed!
Distilled White Vinegar: just a touch adds some extra tang!
Fresh Herbs and Garlic: the star of the show in ranch dressing are the fresh herbs. This recipe uses fresh dill, chives, parsley, plus minced garlic, to give the dressing that classic ranch flavor.
Buttermilk: this helps give the dressing that creamy consistency.
Ingredient Variations
- Yogurt – use your favorite plain plant-based yogurt to keep this recipe completely dairy-free. Or, swap the Greek yogurt for sour cream if you prefer.
- Buttermilk – don’t want to use buttermilk? you can swap this for regular milk or a non-dairy milk like almond milk if you prefer.
- Mayo – not a fan of mayonnaise? Use extra Greek yogurt instead.
- Fresh herbs – can’t find fresh herbs? Use store-bought or homemade Ranch seasoning mix with dried herbs, and adjust to taste.

How to Make Ranch Dressing from Scratch
Step One: Add the Greek yogurt, mayonnaise, lemon juice, vinegar, and Dijon mustard to a mixing bowl. Whisk until well combined and smooth.
Step Two: Next, add the dill, chives, parsley, garlic, salt, and pepper to the yogurt mixture. Stir again until well incorporated.
Step Three: Lastly, stir in teh buttermilk, starting with ¼ cup, until smooth. Add more as needed until the dressing reaches your desired consistency.
