Healthy ranch chicken wings made with a homemade ranch seasoning and baked in the oven until perfectly crispy. These wings take just a few simple ingredients and are so easy to make for a delicious flavorful dinner. This recipe is Whole30 compliant, Paleo, and dairy-free. It will be a hit with the whole family!
Crispy chicken wings are already delicious on their own but when you add in a homemade (and dairy-free!) ranch seasoning, they become ten times more delicious than before.
Eating healthy does not have to mean eating boring flavorless food and if you have been missing chicken wings because you are avoiding fried foods or just eating out in general, it is time for you to make your own.
Watch How to Make This Recipe
Making crispy chicken wings at home is more than possible, it is actually super easy and you can do everything right in your oven. Once you know how to make crispy wings you can season and flavor them in so many different ways.
Here are a few reader favorite chicken wing recipes:
If you have not tried it already, baking your wings in the oven until crispy is one of the easiest ways to get perfectly crispy wings.
A couple of the pros to making your wings in the oven are that there is minimal clean up (all you need is one sheet pan), and once you put them in the oven, all you have to do is flip them once while cooking.
Chicken wings are the perfect option for dinner when you need a recipe that is simple and does not require a lot of hands on cooking time.
Here are a few tips for the best crispy baked chicken wings:
Line your sheet pan with parchment paper. This helps to ensure that the chicken wings do not stick and makes cleaning up simple and easy.
Use a little oil. One tablespoon of oil will go a long way to help get the wings cooking and crispy.
Bake the wings at 425. If you want crispy wings you are going to have to bake them at a higher temperature. Baking the wings at 425 will ensure you get that crispy golden skin.
Cook the wings long enough. Wings have a good amount of fat on them which means they will not dry out when cooked at a higher temperature for a little while. Let your wings bake for around 40 minutes and flip them halfway through.
Make sure the wings are fully thawed out and pat them dry. This helps to ensure that there is no extra moisture on the wings so that they can get nice and crispy.
Homemade Dairy Free Ranch Seasoning
The key to these crispy ranch wings is the homemade ranch seasoning mix. You may have seen this recipe made with the premade ranch seasoning packets that you can find at your local grocery store.
Unfortunately, the most popular ranch seasoning packets are made with less than stellar ingredients like stabilizers and preservatives. The seasoning packets often contain dairy which many people are trying to avoid.
Thankfully, making your own homemade ranch seasoning is incredibly easy and you likely have all of the ingredients to make a batch in your spice cabinet already.
The best part of making a homemade seasoning is that the recipe makes extra, which means you will have plenty to use for future recipes like more chicken wings, dressings, and dips.
Here is what you need to make a homemade dairy free ranch seasoning:
Dried parsley
Dried dill
Dried chives
Onion powder
Garlic powder
Salt
Pepper
Once you have all of the ingredients, just combine them in a small bowl and then store the seasoning in an airtight container in your spice cabinet. You will have plenty to use for this recipe and more!
How to Make Ranch Chicken Wings
After you have made the homemade ranch seasoning, these crispy ranch chicken wings are so easy to whip up.
All you’ll need is a few tablespoons of your homemade ranch seasoning, avocado oil, and chicken wings to make a batch of incredibly flavorful wings.
Step One: Pat your cleaned chicken wings dry and then add them to a mixing bowl.
Step Two: Season the chicken wings with two tablespoons of ranch seasoning, a teaspoon of salt, and a tablespoon of avocado oil. Give the wings a stir until well-coated in the oil and seasoning.
Step Three: Transfer the chicken wings to a sheet pan lined with parchment paper. Bake the wings at 425 degrees for 40-45 minutes, flipping halfway through, or until browned and crispy.
Step Four: Once the chicken wings are done, sprinkle them with a little extra ranch seasoning, garnish with green onions and serve while hot and crispy!
Can I Make These Chicken Wings In the Air Fryer?
Have an air fryer and want to use that to make your wings instead? Go for it! One of my favorite ways to make these wings is in the air fryer!
To make these wings in the air fryer, just toss them in the oil and seasonings until well coated. Then transfer the wings to the air fryer and cook at 400 degrees for 20 minutes.
You can give the wings a shake or flip them halfway through to ensure that they cook evenly. After the wings are finished cooking, sprinkle a little more ranch seasoning on them and enjoy!
A Couple of Air Fryer Method Notes
Depending on the size of your air fryer and the amount of chicken you are cooking, you may need to make this recipe in two batches.
If you are trying to cut down on the amount of oil you are using, you can use a half a tablespoon of oil for this recipe instead of the full tablespoon. I would still use a little bit of oil to ensure ultimate crispy-ness but chicken wings have a lot of natural fat so using a little less oil will still work!
Add all of the ranch seasoning ingredients in a small mixing bowl and stir until well combined.
Add the chicken wings, salt, 2 tablespoons of ranch seasoning, avocado oil, and red pepper flakes (if using) to a mixing bowl. Toss the chicken wings until they are well coated in the oil and seasoning.
Transfer the chicken wings to a sheet pan lined with parchment paper. Bake at 425 degrees for 40-45 minutes, flipping halfway through, or until browned and crispy.
Remove the wings from the oven and sprinkle with a little extra ranch seasoning. Serve immediately and enjoy!
When I tell you this is AMAZING! It was a perfect snack after church while watching football. I added veggies on the side and when I looked up it was all gone! The boys LOVED it!
These are the easiest thing to make but tastes SO GOOD! My family requests these all the time. I love that you make a big batch of seasoning so that you could just add more wings! haha! DELICIOUS!!!!!
If there is such a thing as a wing snob it would be me. I searched a long time for a wing recipe that was up to my standards and these are it! My daughter who hates spicy loves eating them plain and I turn them into Buffalo wings for my son! This is now our go to wing recipe!!!
I was so excited to try these. I went dairy and gluten free last year and I haven’t had ranch in so long. Loved that you included a DF recipe with enough leftover to store and use for a second batch or additional recipe! My husband and kids (7, 5 and 3) all ate them and liked them, too! We made them twice in the same week. Next time I will have to double the batch. I think I will also omit the salt from the chicken mixture. I think the salt included in the ranch recipe was enough.
These are so good and so easy to make! My picky twins were hesitant at first but once they tried it, they loved it! Our family of 5 (3 young kids) demolished 2.5 lbs of these wings!
I’ve made this recipe 3 or 4 times now and they always turn out great. We even do a lemon pepper wing this way as well. My fried wings loving husband approves as well. Thank you!
These are the best wings I have ever made!! I served them with your chickpea salad and that is AMAZING as well!! Thank you for all of your wonderful recipes!!
Hello! I’m excited to make these this week. My grocery store only had frozen unseasoned chicken wings, do I need to defrost them before preparing them for this recipe?
These wings were so delicious! They came out super crispy and full of flavor! The recipe was simple and easy for me to follow which is always nice. We will definitely make them again and again! Thank you Ashlea!
AMAZING recipe! Decided to barbecue the wings and they turned out great! Didn’t have any dried chives but the ranch seasoning still turned out great. Served with a red cabbage and apple slaw and smashed potatoes! So good! Will definitely be making again.
These were AMAZING! Decided to grill them and paired it with a red cabbage slaw and smashed potatoes. Great recipe! Didn’t have dried chives but was still so good without. Will be making again!
Hi, Candace! Avocado oil has a higher smoke point which makes it a great oil to use for this recipe because the wings are cooked at such a high temperature. If you have melted coconut oil or ghee those would be great! Olive oil could work as well.
Um… so why are these so good and I LOVE that I can make them in the oven. I love my air fryer, but these feel even easier than the air fryer for some reason. They’re just as amazing and that ranch seasoning? I’m on my second batch, I put it on EVERYTHING!! One of my favorite recipes so far from ATHT!
I did these for the Super Bowl and me and my husband loved them! The homemade ranch seasoning is so good. I also followed all of the prep steps and got very crispy baked wings!
I was looking for a wing recipe that wasn’t spicy and my kids would enjoy and these did not disappoint! The flavor from this simple spice combo is amazing! I tried cooking half in the oven and half in my air fryer. They were delicious either way!
Made these for Super Bowl Sunday and man were they delicious!!! I’d never made wings in the oven, but they turned out so crispy!! I will definitely make these again!!
I LOVE these wings! I made this recipe for a fight night date and they were AAAAMMMZZINNGG! I was hesitant to make them because the ingredient list was quiet long, and i didn’t have those spices on hand…but, I’m so glad i got them ans made it because they were worth extra work😊😋
I had never made wings before and was a bit intimidated, but this recipe is SO EASY and so good! I loved the ranch seasoning and the directions for the air fryer were spot on. Loved them—thank you!!!
WOW! A solid 10/10 on the crispiest most flavorful wings I’ve ever had. Hubby approved as well. So darn good I didn’t even use the ranch sauce I put on my plate to dip them in.
These wings were delicious! I prefer to eat wings without the skin, so I cut and removed the skin before cooking. Then followed the same directions, except I used the entire ranch seasoning mix for cooking instead of saving some for later. Cook time and temp as instructed worked perfectly in my air fryer. These were so good dipped in Buffalo sauce! Will make again!!
These wings are everything! I forgot I had made a batch of the seasoning and found it in my pantry recently. I whipped up a few batches several days in a row and will be doing so again soon!
I made these on Christmas Eve because I didn’t feel like cooking a whole turkey or chicken. These wings were so good and easy to make! Since I have some seasoning left over, I’ll be making them again.
Our family eats chicken wings once a week so we are very particular about trying new flavors. These did not disappoint! Look forward to trying your other versions soon. Thanks for a great recipe, Ashlea!
Hi, Sheila! I think you could make a boneless version. You would just need to adjust the cooking time based on the cut of meat you use and they likely will not be as crispy but still flavorful. Let me know how it goes!
These are the best wings we have ever had. The seasoning is beyond amazing. We threw them on the grill after seeing you make them on the whole30account. Now we can’t wait to try all of your other variations! Thanks for sharing!
These were so delicious! We have wings weekly, so I’m always looking for new ideas I made these in my vortex air fryer and they took about 25 minutes for almost 30 wings. My husband devoured these so fast. Excited to keep this recipe in my rotation.
Hi, Jill! There are a whole two sections in the blog post addressing how to make these wings in the air fryer as well as notes on how to get the best results in the air fryer. Hope that helps!
So happy you loved them, Beverlea! We keep wings in the rotation around here, too!
I personally don’t think these tase like ranch wings but they are fantastic! I’ve made them twice and they were devoured each time. The second time I used my leftover ranch seasoning in my ground beef for grilling burgers…outstanding!!! Thank you!

Is it possible to use vegetable or olive oil instead of avocado or does that effect the flavor?
Hi, Candace! Avocado oil has a higher smoke point which makes it a great oil to use for this recipe because the wings are cooked at such a high temperature. If you have melted coconut oil or ghee those would be great! Olive oil could work as well.
Absolutely amazing! The seasoning is so flavorful you don’t need dressing! Can’t wait to make again.

If you wanted to just use drummies and no wings, would cook time be about the same as wings?
