Mango Salsa Recipe Ingredients

Mango: The base of this salsa is sweet and juicy fresh mango. You can buy pre-sliced or cubed mango and then dice it into smaller bits or pick your own ripe mango and dice it yourself.

Red Onion: You’ll also need a bit of fresh red onion. You can rinse or soak the red onion in cold water before using to take away some of the ‘bite’.

Red Bell Pepper: This adds some additional crunch and delicious flavor of red bell pepper.

JalapeƱo: Diced jalapeƱo adds just a little heat to the salsa along with flavor. Feel free to leave this out if you prefer.

Cilantro: You can’t have salsa without fresh cilantro!

Salt: Just a bit to season the salsa. Adding a pinch of salt also helps to draw moisture out of the fruits and veggies to make the salsa a bit more “juicy”.

Lime: You’ll need fresh lime juice and zest for this recipe! Nothing is wasted!

Tips for the Best Salsa

  • Choose Ripe Mango: When choosing pineapples for this recipe be sure that they are nice and ripe for the best sweet and juicy flavor. Your mango should should give slightly when pressed.
  • Balance the Flavors: You want to be sure that the salsa has the right blend of sweet, tangy, and spicy flavors. Before using the mango, give it a taste. If it’s particularly sweet, you might want to add a bit more lime juice to the salsa.
  • Dice It Up: For the best salsa, you want to chop all the ingredients, including the mango, into small, uniform pieces. That way you get a little bit of everything in every single bite.
  • Let the Flavors Meld: Before serving, let the mango salsa sit for 30 minutes to give all the flavors a chance to come together.
  • Kick Up the Heat: If you like your salsa on the spicier side, then leave the ribs and seeds of the jalapeƱo intact when dicing to add a bit of extra heat.
  • Serve It Right Away: I find that mango salsa tastes its very best the first or second day. I like to prepare it the same morning I plan to serve.
  • Adjust the sweetness: If you like your salsa on the sweeter side, feel free to add a touch of honey!
