Shrimp Taco Ingredients

Spices: a flavorful combination of dried spices along with a little coconut sugar for sweetness is used to sweeten the shrimp.

Shrimp: speaking of shrimp, we’re using peeled and deveined shrimp for this recipe.

Greek Yogurt: a little protein packed full fat Greek yogurt is used to make the creamy dressing for the slaw.

Cabbage: the cool and crunchy slaw on top of the tacos is made with fresh cabbage.

Cilantro: you’ll need a little for the slaw and to finish off your tacos.

Lime Juice and Zest: this recipe uses both the zest and juice of a lime for all that yummy citrus flavor.

Ingredient Substitutions

  • Greek yogurt – if you don’t have full fat Greek yogurt you can substitute it with sour cream.
  • Cabbage – I like to use a combination of both shredded green and red cabbage but either will work! You can also use pre-shredded coleslaw mix to keep things even easier.
  • Shrimp – don’t love shrimp? you can use thinly sliced chicken breast instead.

How to Make Shrimp Tacos and Chipotle Cabbage Slaw

Step One: Combine the oil, coconut sugar, ground cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, chipotle powder, and lime zest in a small bowl.

Step Two: Pat the shrimp dry and then add to a mixing bowl. Sprinkle on the seasoning blend over the shrimp along with salt and pepper. Set aside while you make the slaw.

Step Three: Add the Greek yogurt, olive oil, lime juice, chipotle powder, garlic powder, ground cumin, smoked paprika, and salt and pepper to taste. Whisk together until well combined. Then, add the shredded cabbage and chopped cilantro. Stir until well combined and the cabbage is coated in the dressing. Set aside while you make the shrimp.

Step Four: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add a little olive oil to the pan and then add the shrimp. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until the shrimp is opaque and pink around the edges.

Step Five: Start with a base of slaw, add a few shrimp, and then top with queso fresco, chopped cilantro, and a squeeze of fresh lime juice.
