Recipe Ingredients
Strawberries: The base of this salsa is sweet strawberries. Make sure they’re hulled and finely diced.
Red onion: Rinse or soak the red onion in cold water before using it to take away some of that classic red onion ‘bite’.
Jalapeño: This adds just a touch of heat. Be sure to remove the seeds and membrane if you like things on the milder side.
Cilantro: You can’t have salsa without fresh cilantro!
Salt and Pepper: You just need a little bit to really bring out all of the flavors of the ingredients.
Lime: We use both fresh lime juice and lime zest to add that perfect citrus flavor to the salsa.
How to Make Salsa with Strawberries
Step One: Add all the ingredients to a large mixing bowl.
Step Two: Str until well combined and season to taste.
Step Three: Enjoy right away, or chill until you’re ready to serve!
Tips for the Best Salsa
- Choose Ripe Strawberries: For the best salsa you want to use the best strawberries. Look for strawberries that are bright red and free from any bruises or dark spots. Avoid berries with green or white tips as they tend to have very little flavor.
- Balance the Flavors: You want to be sure that the salsa has the right blend of sweet, tangy, and spicy flavors. Give the strawberries a taste before eating the salsa. If they’re particularly sweet, you might want to add a bit more lime juice to balance things out.
- Dice It Up: For the best salsa, you want to dice everything, including the strawberries, into small, uniform pieces. That way you get a little bit of everything in every single bite!
- Let the Flavors Meld: Before serving, let the strawberry salsa sit for 30 minutes to give all the flavors a chance to come together.
- Kick Up the Heat: If you like your salsa on the spicier side, skip removing the ribs and seeds of the jalapeño when dicing. The ribs and seeds hold all the heat so leaving them in will give the salsa a bit of kick.
- Serve It Right Away: I find that this salsa tastes its very best the first or second day.
- Adjust the Sweetness: If you like your salsa on the sweeter side, feel free to add a touch of honey or maple syrup!
