Easy one skillet meals are my jam! One skillet, just a few ingredients, and usually less than thirty minutes can get you a really delicious mea.

This protein packed cajun shrimp and sausage skillet is one of my very favorites one-skillet recipes and for good reason. It’s so hearty (hello shrimp AND sausage) and perfect for those busy weeknights when you want something flavorful but do not have a lot of time to get dinner on the table.

This recipe is made with just a few simple ingredients, incredibly customizable (I give you a few options below), and will only take you ten minutes to make. Serve it with rice, roasted veggies, your favorite side dish for a quick and easy meal that is perfect for the entire family!

Ingredients You Need for a Cajun Shrimp and Sausage Skillet

Cooking Fat: Avocado oil or ghee work the best for this recipe.

Shrimp: Shrimp is such a great source of protein! Be sure to properly peel and devein your shrimp before adding it to the skillet.

How to Make a Cajun Shrimp and Sausage Skillet

Making this cajun shrimp and sausage could not be easier. All you need is ten minutes to whip up this one-skillet meal. Here is a summary of the easy steps. Be sure to scroll down to the recipe card for the full ingredients and instructions.

Step One: First, you’ll cook the andouille sausage! Browning the sausage helps to develop flavor which makes the skillet even more delicious.

Step Two: Next, cook the garlic, onion, and bell peppers for a few minutes until they are tender. This is when you’ll add the salt, pepper, and cajun seasoning.

Step Three: Finally, add in the shrimp and cook for just a few minutes (do not overcook them!) until they are translucent and ready to eat. Finish the skillet with green onion, a squeeze of fresh lemon juice, and more seasoning to taste. Serve the skillet immediately and enjoy!

  • To ensure that they cook evenly, slice the peppers roughly the same size.
  • Do not overcook your shrimp. Shrimp is a quick cooking protein and only needs two to three minutes of cook time before it is ready to eat. Once it has turned translucent, the shrimp should be ready to eat!

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil or ghee
  • 12 oz andouille sausage, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon finely minced garlic
  • 1 small red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 small orange bell pepper, sliced
  • 1/2 yellow onion, sliced
  • 1/4 cup sliced green onion
  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 tablespoon cajun seasoning (plus more to taste)
  • juice of one lemon
  • salt and pepper to taste

Method

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the skillet is hot, add in the avocado oil or ghee.
  2. Add the minced garlic and cook for minute until fragrant.
  3. Add the sliced andouille sausage and cook for three to four minutes to brown on both sides. When the sausage has browned, add the sliced bell peppers and onions to the skillet. Season with salt, pepper, and the cajun seasoning. Cook the veggies for three to four minutes.
  4. Next, add the shrimp to the skillet and toss to combine. Cook for two to three minutes until the shrimp is translucent and cooked through.
  5. Remove the skillet from the heat and add the lemon juice, sliced green onion, and more seasoning to taste. Serve immediately.
