Slow Cooker Barbecue Chicken Ingredients

Chicken Breast: you’ll need around a pound a half of boneless, skinless chicken breast for this recipe.

BBQ Sauce: any barbecue sauce that you like will work for this recipe! you can go sweet, spicy, or more mesquite and I include some tips below.

Apple Juice: this adds just a little extra moistness and flavor to the chicken.

Apple Cider Vinegar: this adds a little of that classic bbq tang to the chicken and also helps to keep the meat tender.

Spices: you’ll need a little onion powder, garlic powder, and paprika.

Ingredient Variations

  • Use chicken thighs instead of breast – don’t have chicken thighs? you can swap them for for boneless skinless chicken thighs instead.
  • Swap the apple juice for broth – if you don’t have apple juice you can easily swap it for chicken broth or even water.
  • Switch up the BBQ sauce – make your bb chicken sweeter by using a honey bbq sauce or add a little kick with a spicy bbq sauce!
  • Finish with some green onion – add some sliced green onion to your finished barbecued chicken for some extra flavor.

How to Store and Reheat

Store: If you have a tight fitting lid for your slow cooker then you can store the shredded barbecue chicken right in the slow cooker inside the fridge. If not, transfer the chicken to an air-tight storage container and keep in the fridge for 3-4 days.

Reheat: The easiest way to reheat the chicken is in the microwave fro 30 seconds to a 1 minute at a time.
