Peanut Butter Banana Bread Ingredients
Butter: this bread starts with a bit of unsalted melted butter.
Peanut Butter: to get that delicious peanut butter flavor you’ll need some creamy all-natural peanut butter.
Banana: be sure to use spotty, brown ripe bananas for this banana bread for the best flavor. You’ll need 3-4 extra ripe bananas for this recipe.
Brown Sugar: we’re using a bit of dark brown sugar to give the banana bread some sweetness.
Eggs: you’ll need just two large eggs eggs to help bind the bread together.
Vanilla Extract: you can’t have banana bread without a good amount of vanilla extract.
All-Purpose Flour: this recipe calls for regular all-purpose. If you need a gluten free substitution I’ve included that below.
Baking Soda: you’ll need a bit of baking soda to work as a leavening agent and give the bread some lift.
Cinnamon: all good banana breads need plenty of ground cinnamon, in my personal opinion.
Dark Chocolate Chips: peanut butter, chocolate, and banana seems like the perfect combination so we’re adding.a generous handful to this bread.
Ingredient Swaps
- Butter – need to keep this recipe dairy free? swap the butter melted coconut oil or unsweetened apple sauce.
- Flour – you can swap the all-purpose flour for a 1:1 gluten free all purpose flour such as Cup 4 Cup gluten free flour. Substituting almond flour or coconut flour for all purpose flour in this recipe will not work.
- Brown Sugar – if you prefer you can swap the brown sugar for coconut sugar. I don’t recommend using a liquid sweetener like honey or maple syrup as it will change the texture of the bread.
- Mix-Ins – if you prefer, you can leave out the dark chocolate chips altogether, swap them for milk chocolate, or add in some chopped nuts.

Tips and Tricks for the Best Bread
- Be sure to use fresh baking soda to ensure that your bread rises properly.
- To prevent sticking, line your loaf pan with parchment paper before adding the batter. You can use a bit of spray oil to help the parchment paper stick to the loaf pan. Using parchment will also make it easier to remove the bread from the pan.
- I like to turn the bread halfway through cooking to ensure that it cooks evenly.
- You can insert a WOODEN SKEWER into the center of the bread to check on its doneness. Once it comes out clean the bread should be done.
Can I Bake This Peanut Butter Bread Loaf Into Muffins?
Yes! Transfer the banana bread batter to a lined muffin pan. Next, bake the muffins for 18-22 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted into the center.
How to Store
You can store the banana bread on the counter, tightly wrapped, for 3-4 days. If you need it to keep the bread fresh for a bit longer, I recommend storing it in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to a week.
How to Freeze
Yes! If you want to freeze your peanut butter banana bread, here are a few of my favorite tips.
- Slice the bread before freezing unless you know you are going to serve and eat the entire loaf at one time.
- To freeze the banana bread, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and place the wrapped bread in a freezer safe storage bag. When you are ready to eat, remove a slice of bread, or the entire loaf, from the freezer and let it thaw on the counter top.
- If you would like, you can reheat a slice of banana bread in the oven at 350 degrees, wrapped in foil, for a few minutes until warmed through.
