Sweet, Creamy, and Slightly Tangy Honey Mustard Sauce!
There are some things that I just forget that I can make at home and up until now honey mustard sauce was one of those things.
Honey mustard is one of my personal favorite sauces to order when I’m out. It is the perfect sauce for chicken nuggets, sweet potato fries, regular french fries, tenders, you name it. SO GOOD.
Thankfully, making your own honey mustard sauce at home is as easy as one, two, three. You can whip up a batch that is perfect for dipping in just five minutes.
And, this honey mustard sauce is made with only simple, real food ingredients. Unlike most pre-made honey mustard sauces that you find on store shelves, you won’t have to worry about any weird preservatives, unhealthy oils, or chemical ingredients in this homemade version!
Healthy Honey Mustard Sauce Ingredients
Mayonnaise: You may be surprised to know that mayonnaise is a common ingredient in honey mustard. The sauce actually gets its smooth and creamy texture from mayonnaise.
Dijon Mustard: Dijon mustard is usually made from a combination of brown mustard seeds and white wine. It gives the sauce the signature mustard flavor.
Yellow Mustard: the addition of yellow mustard adds that classic mustard flavor and gives the sauce it’s signature yellow color.
Apple Cider Vinegar: this helps to give the sauce a bit of tang and cut through the flavor of the mayonnaise a bit.
Honey: a must have, of course! This recipe starts with three tablespoons but you can add a bit more if you like your sauce on the sweeter side.
Paprika, Onion Powder, and Garlic Powder: Adds even more flavor and seasoning.
How To Make Homemade Honey Mustard
Step One: Add the mayonnaise, mustards, honey, and spices to a small mixing bowl.
Step Two: Use a whisk to combine all of the ingredients until you have a smooth sauce.
Give the honey mustard a taste and tweak based on your tastebuds. For example, if you like a little more tang you can add a bit more apple cider vinegar.
If you would like the honey mustard to be a bit sweeter, you can add more honey. Feel free to add more spices if you would like as well.
Ways To Use
This honey mustard sauce is perfect for so many different things. I am sure you will find some of your own favorite ways to use it. But, if you need some inspiration, this honey mustard always work well as a:
- condiment on sandwiches and lettuce wraps
- dip for potato wedges or fries
- burger sauce
- dip for fresh veggies
- finishing sauce for fish, chicken, or pork, wings
