Quick and Easy Tahini Yogurt Sauce

I’m a big fan of tahini and love using it in a variety of recipes like my tahini chocolate chip energy bites and sheet pan harvest roasted vegetables. One of my favorite ways to use it is in dips and sauces like this delicious yogurt tahini sauce!

This recipe is made with a handful of simple ingredients and it comes together in just five or ten minutes. You can keep a batch on hand as a dip for veggies or sauce for proteins!

Recipe Ingredients

Plain Greek Yogurt: I prefer to use whole-milk Greek yogurt in this recipe but you could easily sub it for low-fat or fat-free yogurt! If you need to keep this recipe dairy-free you can use favorite dairy-free yogurt instead!

Tahini: tahini is made from ground sesame seeds and has unique savory flavor. Typically, you can find it in the nut butter section of your local grocery store.

Lemon Juice: freshly squeezed lemon juice is a must to give the sauce that lemon flavor. You could add a bit of lemon zest as well if you want even more lemon flavor.

Garlic: try to go with fresh cloves here if you can!

How to Make Yogurt Tahini Sauce

Step One: Add the Greek yogurt and tahini to a mixing bowl. Whisk until well combined.

Step Two: Next, add the lemon juice, water, garlic, and salt, and whisk again until smooth.

Step Three: Add more salt or lemon juice to taste, and stir in more water as needed to create a thinner consistency.

Tips and Tricks for the Best Tahini and Yogurt Sauce

  • Give the tahini a stir in the jar if a layer of oil has risen to the top. Natural nut and seed butters tend to separate in the pantry. So, you’ll want to make sure the tahini is well mixed before using it to prevent your sauce from being too oily.
  • Be sure to grate or press the garlic so that it is nice and fine before adding it to the mixing bowl. This will ensure you have a relatively smooth sauce and don’t end up with huge chunks of garlic.
  • Add a little more lemon juice or water to thin the tahini yogurt sauce to your liking. If it’s too thick I like to start by adding half a tablespoon of liquid at a time until the sauce reaches my desired consistency.

Ways to Use

One of my favorite things about this recipe is its versatility. You can use it in several ways and in many different recipes. Here are a few of my favorite ways to use it:

You can store any leftover tahini yogurt sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. Just be sure to give it a good stir before using.
