Easy Honey Simple Syrup Recipe
If you’re unfamiliar, simple syrup is a liquid sweetener made by dissolving sugar in water. You can find a variety of flavors, but they all start with a base of just sugar and water. You’ll find simple syrups being used to flavor everything from lattes to salad dressings.
This homemade version has the sweet flavor and slightly sticky consistency of traditional recipes. However, we swap the granulated sugar for honey!
Recipe Ingredients
Honey: You’ll need half a cup of honey for the base of this recipe. Choose a high-quality honey that you love the taste of.
Water: Use half a cup water to dilute the honey and create a pourable consistency.
How to Make Honey Simple Syrup
Step One: Add the honey and water to a small pot. Heat the mixture over medium heat until the honey dissolves completely.
Step Two: Remove the pot from the heat, and allow the mixture to cool.
Step Three: Transfer the syrup to an airtight container, and store it in the fridge.
Flavor Variations
I love the simple, sweet flavor of this simple syrup with honey, but feel free to include different add-ins for extra flavor. Some great options include:
- Herbs – rosemary, mint, lavender, bay leaves
- Citrus – orange, lemon, or lime, zest
- Vanilla – vanilla extract or whole vanilla bean
Ways to Use
Most often you’ll find honey simple syrup in drinks, but there are so many ways to put it to use! Some of my favorite options include ;
- In hot or cold coffees like my iced honey cinnamon latte.
- With black and herbal teas.
- In mocktails such as a watermelon mojito mocktail or cucumber watermelon mojito mocktail.
- In dressings, marinades, and glazes.
- To sweeten stir-fry sauces.
How to Store
Store leftover syrup in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one month.
