Better-Than-Takeout Stir Fry with Ground Beef
In my quest to save money this year I’m fulling embracing my “you’ve got food at home” mentality which means making versions of my favorite meals and flavors at home and saving dining out for more special occasions. When I’m craving Chinese takeout this easy ground beef stir fry is one of the recipes I love to make. There’s nothing like the real deal from my favorite Chinese takeout spot but this recipe is SO GOOD in a pinch.
A couple of things that are special about this recipe:
- It’s made with lean ground beef and full of protein which I know so many of us are trying to prioritize right now.
- It’s packed with fresh veggies! I made this recipe a one-stop shop so that you can get both your protein and veggies in one meal.
- It comes together in one skillet and in around 15 minutes because I know none of us have time to waste these days!
Plus, the leftovers store well, which means this stir fry is also great for meal prep!

A Quick Overview of the Stir Fry Ingredients
Ground Beef: I like to use lean (93/7) ground beef for this recipe.
Veggies: we’re using baby Bella mushrooms, white onion, red bell pepper, and sugar snap peas. You can always switch it up, though! Try adding other veggies like bok choy, broccoli, or water chestnuts.
Stir-Fry Sauce: I use my homemade stir-fry sauce for this recipe, but you can substitute any store-bought option you prefer.

How to make This Ground Beef Stir Fry
Step One: Make the stir-fry sauce! Add all the sauce ingredients to a small mixing bowl or mason jar, and whisk or shake to combine.
Step Two: Prep your veggies! Make sure all your veggies are sliced and ready to use. This recipe comes together quickly. So, having all your vegetables ready to go is important.
Step Three: Cook the beef. Next, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add a bit of avocado oil to the pan followed by the ground beef. Season the meat with a bit of salt and pepper, and brown, breaking it up as it cooks. Once the beef is cooked through and no longer pink, remove it from the pan, and set it aside.
Step Four: Sauté the veggies. Keeping the skillet over medium-high heat, add a bit more avocado oil. Then, add the mushrooms, and sauté until they’re browned and tender. This typically takes about 3-4 minutes! Next, add the remaining vegetables to the pan, and sauté for an additional 6-8 minutes or until the veggies begin to soften but are still crisp.
Step Five: Finish the stir-fry. Add the ground beef back to the pan, and stir to combine it with the veggies. Then, add the stir-fry sauce, lower the heat, and toss to combine. The sauce should begin to thicken as it quickly cools!
Step Six: Build a bowl! Serve your ground beef stir fry over cooked white rice garnished with sesame seeds, green onion, and chili crisp oil if desired. Enjoy warm!

How to Store
Store: store the ground beef stir fry and veggies in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.
Reheat: you can quickly reheat the stir fry mixture in the microwave for thirty seconds to a minute until heated through. Or, warm it in a skillet over medium heat. I like to keep extra stir-fry sauce on hand to freshen it back up!
