The Best Dry Rub for Chicken Wings
Don’t get me wrong. I love a good saucy chicken wing (these like my BBQ chicken wings are a favorite) but there’s also something about a crispy wing, that has my heart.
My secret to the best flavor is this easy dry rub that’s just perfect for chicken wings! It’s made with a handful of simple ingredients, it takes no time to whip up, and it’s easy to customize based on your personal preferences. All you have to do is combine everything, and it’s ready to use!
This dry rub also stores incredibly well which means you can make a big batch to keep on hand.

Recipe Ingredients
- Salt
- Black pepper
- Brown sugar
- Chipotle powder
- Onion powder
- Garlic powder
- Paprika
- Dried thyme
- Dried oregano
- Dried mustard
- Cayenne pepper (adjust to taste if you don’t love spice)

How to Make This Easy Dry Rub for Chicken Wings
Step One: Add all the ingredients to a small mixing bowl.
Step Two: Stir until well combined, and use immediately. Or, store your dry rub for later!
How to Store
Store leftover dry rub for chicken wings in an airtight container in a cool dark place. Make sure there are no holes or cracks, or it will clump! Otherwise, the rub will stay fresh for up to 3 months.
If the color changes or the aroma starts to become weak, you’ll know it’s time to make a new batch. I also like to make a double or triple batch of this seasoning at a time and keep it on hand in my pantry!
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you get a dry rub to stick to wings?
The key to getting the dry rub to stick to your chicken is to first pat the wings dry with a paper towel. I find this helps the spice rub really stick to the meat.
How long should dry rub sit on chicken?
You can bake your wings immediately or allow them to sit for at least 30 minutes or up to a few hours at room temperature to allow the rub to penetrate the meat, similarly to a marinade.
Is it better to marinate or dry rub chicken wings?
It depends on your preferences! If you love crispy chicken wings, dry rubs are best. The dry spices promote browning and help create a delicious crispy golden exterior!.
