What Is The Best Cut Of Steak To Use?

The best cut of steak to use for this recipe is a tender cut with not much visible fat. My personal favorite cut of steak to use is top sirloin.

The meat is tender, easy to cut into bites, and is not marbled with a lot of fat which makes it a great choice for this recipe. New York strip steak, tenderloin, or rib eye would be a few other great options.

Ingredients You’ll Need

Steak: Cut the steak into bite size pieces, roughly one-inch cubes. Try to cut the steak into even sized pieces so that they cook evenly.

Butter or Ghee: If you are using butter for this recipe, I highly recommend using a pasture-raised butter like Kerrygold because it will have more flavor. If you prefer, ghee will also work well for this recipe.

Fresh Garlic: This recipe is called garlic butter steak bites for no reason. Cloves of fresh garlic give the steak so much flavor.

Salt and Pepper: A simple and classic combination that adds so much flavor to steak.

Parsley: Fresh parsley works best but if you don’t have any feel free to leave it off or use dried.

Green Onion: For garnish and to add even more flavor.

Red Pepper Flakes: Adds a little spice! If you do not like spice feel free to leave this ingredient out.

How To Make Garlic Butter Steak Bites

Step One: Cut the steak into one-inch bite size pieces and then season with it with the salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes.

Step Two: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and then add avocado oil to the hot skillet. Next, add the steak, in a single layer, to the pan. Cook the steak bites for three or four minutes until brown, stirring occasionally. You may have to do this in batches depending on the size of your skillet. Once the steak is brown, remove it from the pan.

Step Three: Remove any excess water from the skillet and then add the butter or ghee to the pan. Next add the minced garlic and saute for one minute.

Step Four: Next add your steak back to the pan and cook for one to two minutes. While the steak is cooking, stir to coat it in the garlic butter sauce. After the steak is finished cooking, remove the pan from the heat and stir in the chopped parsley. Garnish the steak with sliced green onion and serve immediately.

Recipe Tips and Variations

  • Add extra veggies – you can easily customize this recipe by adding in some quick cooking vegetables before sautéing the garlic. Zucchini, bell peppers, and thinly sliced onion will all work. Just add the veggies (and a little oil) to the skillet after removing the excess water from the pan but before adding the butter. Sauté the veggies for a few minutes until tender crisp, then remove from the pan, and continue with the rest of the recipe. You’ll add the veggies and steak back to the pan at the same time.
  • Use fresh garlic – fresh garlic really is best for this recipe. If you want to save a little time you can use pre-peeled garlic!
  • Use chicken thighs – don’t want to use beef? try swapping it for boneless skinless chicken thighs that have been cut into pieces.

How to Serve

You can serve these steak bites with just about anything! Here are a few suggestions:

How to Store and Reheat

I have found that the best way to reheat these steak fajitas is in a skillet. Just a few minutes in a hot skillet will ensure that both the steak and veggies are evenly heated through. Of course, you can always reheat your fajitas in the microwave. Just be careful not to leave them in there for too long.

So easy and so delicious! Subbed cilantro for the parsley bc that’s what I had. Made a extra garlic ghee and cooked a package of cauliflower rice in that, seasoned with salt, pepper, crushed red pepper flakes, and cilantro, added some spinach that was looking sad, and my bowl was complete! Another wonderful recipe!
