Fuss-Free Slow Cooker Turkey Chili

Chili is one of my absolute favorite meals, especially when the weather gets cold. I rotate through options like my sweet potato chili, healthy white chicken chili, black bean butternut squash turkey chili, and turkey pumpkin chili all fall and winter. I’m a firm believer that you can never have too many slow cooker recipes and this slow cooker turkey chili is one of my new favorites.

Not only is it delicious and filling, but all I have to do is brown the meat, sauté the aromatics, and combine the ingredients. Then, the slow cooker does all the hard work. It’s a lifesaver on busy days!

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Ground Turkey: you’ll need a pound of white or dark meat ground turkey. You could also use lean ground beef or ground chicken if preferred.
  • Veggies: you’ll need yellow onion, red bell pepper, garlic, and fire-roasted diced tomatoes.
  • Beans: I use a combination of kidney beans and black beans. Make sure they’re rinsed and drained!
  • Chicken Broth: I always opt for a low-sodium chicken broth. You could also use some homemade broth if you have some on hand.
  • Seasonings: A bay leaf, chili powder, cumin, salt, dried oregano, smoked paprika, and black pepper create a warm, savory flavor with just a touch of heat. I also like to add cayenne pepper for a little extra oomph, but it’s optional.

How to Make Slow Cooker Turkey Chili in Two Easy Steps!

  1. Brown and sauté. Brown the turkey in oil in a large skillet, breaking it up as it cooks. Then, add the diced onion and minced garlic, and cook until the onion is tender.
  2. Combine and cook. Transfer the turkey mixture to a slow cooker, stir in the remaining ingredients, cover, and cook until the veggies are tender. Enjoy warm!

Topping Ideas and Serving Suggestions

The best part of any bowl of chili is the toppings! For this slow cooker turkey chili recipe, I always add sliced green onion, shredded cheddar cheese, Greek yogurt or sour cream, and avocado.

Then, I pair my chili with green chili cornbread, sweet potato cornbread muffins, or herbed brown butter cheddar cornbread
