Learning how to make crispy chicken wings without deep frying was a turning point in my culinary career and now I think I prefer a crispy baked wing to a fried one!
Getting crispy wings in the oven is so easy and when I shared these Crispy Baked Buffalo Wings years ago they quickly became a reader favorite. These Hot Honey Chicken Wings are just as crispy but this time they’re covered in a sweet and spicy hot honey sauce that will keep you coming back for more.
If you’ve had hot honey wings at your favorite take-out spot and want to recreate them at home without sacrificing any flavor or crunch. Plus, they’re easy to prep, made with a few simple ingredients, and the oven does most of the work. The end result is a healthier version of your favorite party food that tastes even better than takeout!

Key Ingredients and Notes
This is an overview of the main ingredients in this recipe. See the recipe card for full ingredients and instructions.
- Chicken Wings: you’ll need two pounds of split chicken wings, also known as “party wings,” for this recipe.
- Baking Powder: this is my secret to ultra-crispy wings! They still turn out great without it, but the baking powder makes all the difference in getting that extra crispy texture.
- Homemade Hot Honey Sauce: the combination of honey, apple cider vinegar, crushed red pepper flakes, and a few other seasonings creates the most delicious hot honey glaze that you’ll pour over the wings right before serving.

How to Make Baked Hot Honey Chicken Wings in 3 Simple Steps
- Season and bake. Pat the wings dry with paper towels, and toss them with avocado oil and baking powder. Arrange the wings on a prepared baking sheet, and bake until they’re golden brown and crispy, flipping halfway through.
- Toss the wings. While the chicken wings bake, whisk the hot honey sauce in a bowl. Then, add the hot wings, and toss to coat.
- Serve. Transfer the wings to a serving platter, garnish with fresh chives, and enjoy warm with celery, carrots, and ranch or blue cheese dip!
Can I Make Air Fryer Hot Honey Wings?
Absolutely! To make air fryer hot honey wings, toss the wings in oil and baking powder. Then, transfer them to the air fryer, and cook at 400°F for about 20 minutes or until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F. I like to give them a quick shake or flip halfway through to ensure they cook evenly.

A Couple of Air Fryer Method Notes
- Depending on the size of your air fryer and the amount of chicken you are cooking, you may need to make this recipe in two batches.
- If you are trying to reduce the amount of oil you are using, you can use half a tablespoon of oil for this recipe instead of the full tablespoon. I would still use a little bit of oil to ensure ultimate crispiness, but chicken wings have a lot of natural fat. So, using a little less oil will still work!
How to Store and Reheat
Store leftover wings in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
Reheat in the air fryer using the ‘reheat’ function or heat the air fryer to 400°F. Or, warm leftovers on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet in the oven at 400°F just until they’re hot and crispy.
