Juicy Air Fryer Chicken Breast Thanks to the Most Delicious Honey Mustard Marinade

There’s nothing worse than bland and dry chicken breast. Luckily, that’s NEVER a problem with this air fryer boneless chicken breast recipe! My secret to the absolute best taste and texture is all in my quick marinade.

It infuses the protein with incredible flavor and helps keep it tender and juicy as it cooks. This recipe is my go-to when I need a quick protein source that pairs well with whatever I have on hand. I enjoy it on its own, add it to salads, wraps, bowls, and more, and it never disappoints. If you’ve been looking for a way to switch up your chicken game, this is it!

Air Fryer Chicken Breast Ingredients

This is an overview of the main ingredients in this recipe. See the recipe card for full ingredients and instructions, below.

  • Chicken: we’re using two pounds of boneless, skinless chicken breast for this recipe.
  • Honey Mustard Marinade: I combine whole grain mustard, honey, apple cider vinegar, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, salt, pepper, and oil to create a sweet, savory, slightly tangy marinade.

Customize Your Chicken Marinade

  • Chicken – Not a fan of chicken breast? Use boneless, skinless chicken thighs instead. Just be sure to adjust the cooking time as needed.
  • Honey – Don’t like honey? Use maple syrup for a similar taste.
  • Oil – I often use olive oil but avocado oil also works. Use what you want!

How to Cook Chicken Breast in the Air Fryer

Transfer the cooked air fryer chicken to a plate to rest for a few minutes before serving, and repeat the process, cooking the rest of the chicken.

This chicken is also great added to sandwiches, salads, and wraps. Or, use it to make bowls with easy garlic rice, fluffy coconut rice, or quinoa, veggies, and toppings.

    • Method: Air Fryer
    • Cuisine: American
    • Diet: Dairy-Free, Gluten-Free, Low-Carb

    Ingredients

    Units Scale
    • 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breast
    • 2 tablespoons whole grain mustard
    • 2 tablespoons honey
    • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
    • 1 teaspoon onion powder
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons paprika
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
    • 1 tablespoon oil

    Instructions

    1. Use a sharp knife to cut the chicken breast in half, lengthwise.
    2. Add the mustard, honey, apple cider vinegar, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, salt, pepper, and oil to a mixing bowl. Whisk together until well combined.
    3. Next, add the chicken breast pieces to the mixing bowl and use a pair of tongs to toss it in the marinade until it is completely coated. Let the chicken marinate for at least 30 minutes.
    4. Add 2-3 pieces of chicken to your air fryer basket. You may be able to add more chicken, depending on the size of your air fryer, but you want to ensure the chicken is not overlapping. Touching is fine but make sure the chicken is in a single layer.
    5. Cook the chicken at 400 degrees for 10-15 minutes, depending on the thickness of your chicken, until it reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit. I like to start checking the temperature at around 10 minutes. Repeat until all of the chicken is cooked.
