This delicious green smoothie recipe is packed with flavor from tropical fruits, healthy fats thanks to avocado, and could not be any easier to make. The addition of fresh spinach helps to add in even more nutrition and makes this a great recipe to kick off your day!

The Most Delicious and Easy Green Smoothie Recipe

Smoothies are such a great healthy way to start the day. They are usually packed with fiber from fruit (or veggies) and can also be an easy way to get in more healthy fats and greens into your diet. They are an especially delicious option for a quick on the go breakfast when you are short on time but still want to fill your body with nutritious goodness.

This easy green smoothie is my go-to green smoothie recipe. It is packed with healthy fat from avocado and has plenty of fresh spinach. The blend of tropical fruits and fresh ginger takes this smoothie to the next level. It is an absolutely delicious and nourishing drink that you will crave.

Smoothie Ingredients

Frozen fruit: for this recipe we are using a combination of frozen peaches, mango, and pineapple for a delicious tropical flavor.

Avocado: to achieve the perfect creamy consistency, this recipe uses avocado. Not only does avocado add creaminess, it also gives the smoothie an extra boost of healthy fats.

Spinach: You cannot have a green smoothie without the greens and my greens preference for smoothies is always spinach. It blends easily and gives the smoothie a beautiful green color.

Ginger: If you have never tried adding a bit of fresh ginger to your smoothies, you are missing out! The fresh ginger adds a pop of fresh flavor that pairs really well with the tropical fruits.

Almond Milk: This recipe calls for almond milk as the liquid of choice to blend all of the smoothie ingredients together. If you prefer, you could use another non-dairy milk like coconut milk or oat milk. Not feeling a milk at all? Feel free to use coconut water or a fruit juice like orange or pineapple instead.

Honey or Maple Syrup: This is an optional ingredient that you may or may not need depending on the sweetness of your fruit. If you have ripe, sweet fruit, especially if it is in season, you likely won’t need any sweetener.

Can You Taste the Spinach?

No! One of the most common questions I always receive about green smoothies is whether or not you can actually taste the greens. Everyone’s tastebuds are completely different but I wholeheartedly do not think you can taste the spinach in this smoothie. The delicious flavor of the fruit completely overpowers any spinach taste.

Can You Add Yogurt to the Smoothie?

Yes! This recipe, written as is, will give you a perfectly creamy vegan green smoothie. However, if you love the addition of Greek yogurt to your fruit smoothies feel free to add up to half a cup to the recipe.

Can You Use Kale Instead of Spinach?

Yes! If you enjoy the taste of fresh kale, feel free to use it instead of spinach in this smoothie recipe. One thing to note is that kale is a heartier green and has a stronger flavor than spinach so you may be able to taste it a bit more in the smoothie. Also, because it is a leafy green on the tougher side, you may need to spend a bit more time blending to ensure that your smoothie is completely smooth.

Do You Have to Use Avocado?

No! The avocado gives this smoothie a creamy texture but you could also use half a frozen banana instead to ensure that you have a similar creaminess.

Optional Ingredients to Add Your Smoothie

One of the things I personally love about smoothies are the way that they can act as a vehicle for so many nutritious additions and supplements. Below are a few great additions to add to your smoothie:

  • protein powder
  • collagen powder
  • ground flax seeds
  • chia seeds
  • hemp seeds

How to Make a Green Smoothie

Step One: The first step is to add your liquid to the bottom of a high-powered blender.

Step Two: Next, add the greens. Adding the greens after the liquid will make them closer to the blade which will ensure that they are blended well.

Step Three: Now, add the frozen fruit, ginger, and any additional ingredients you would like to include in your smoothie to the blender.

Step Four: Blend everything for 30 seconds to a minute until the smoothie is completely smooth and creamy.

How to Meal Prep Green Smoothies

Smoothies are a great option to meal prep in advance for a quick breakfast or snack. To meal prep a few smoothies at a time, just place all of the smoothie ingredients, except the liquid, in a small freezer bag. Place the bag in the freezer until you are ready to use.

Once you are ready to blend the smoothie, add the liquid your blender and then pour in the contents of your frozen smoothie bag. Blend on high until smooth and you are done!

Tips and Tricks for the Creamiest Smoothie

  • Blend the greens and liquids first – if you do not have a high-powered blender, this step will save you from having chunky smoothies filled with bits of spinach. Just blend the almond milk and spinach until smooth and then add the remaining ingredients.
  • Use frozen fruit – frozen fruit helps to keep the smoothie creamy and cold without the use of any ice.
  • Ditch the ice – speaking of ice, the pitfall of a lot of smoothies is the use of ice. Ice waters down the smoothie, changes the consistency from creamy to icy, and just does not give you that delicious smooth texture that everyone loves.
  • Use ripe fruit – if it’s the summer, when fruit is its best and in season, I highly recommend freezing ripe fresh fruit instead of buying pre-frozen fruit from the freezer section. It will make your smoothie even more flavorful and delicious.

  8. I’m usually skeptical of green smoothies – but this was so delicious! I added collagen and swapped in a peach mango electrolyte drink for the almond milk since I made it post run. This is a great way to get a ton of nutrients in with all the fruit and spinach. Would definitely make again!
