The Ingredients You’ll Need to Make This Recipe

Almond milk: I always have almond milk on hand in my fridge and it is a great liquid of choice for this recipe. You could also use cashew milk, oat milk, or a dairy-milk if you prefer. If you like the flavor of coconut milk, full-fat canned coconut milk could also be delicious.

Maple syrup: This gives the oatmeal just a touch of sweetness. You can use honey if your prefer.

Melted butter: A little butter adds some delicious richness to this baked oatmeal. If you would like to keep this recipe dairy free, feel free to use coconut oil instead.

Vanilla extract: In my opinion, you cannot have good oatmeal without a touch of vanilla extract. This really rounds out the flavor of the oatmeal and makes everything taste extra delicious.

Gluten free rolled oats: Oats are naturally gluten free, but if you have a gluten allergy you will want to look for certified gluten free oats.

Cinnamon: There is a good amount of ground cinnamon in this recipe and that is on purpose. Not only do cinnamon and oats go well together, the flavor of cinnamon and blueberries also pairs nicely. The cinnamon adds a delicious warm flavor to the oatmeal that I am sure you will love.

Fresh blueberries: There are few things better than fresh blueberries and this recipe makes them the star of the show. Be sure to thoroughly rinse and drain your blueberries before using.

Can I Use Frozen Blueberries?

Yes! Don’t have fresh blueberries and need to use frozen? You can absolutely do that! For the best results, I recommend letting the blueberries thaw completely and draining off any excess water before adding them to the batter.

How to Make Blueberry Baked Oatmeal

Step One: First start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees.

Step Two: Next, add the eggs, almond milk, maple syrup, melted butter, and vanilla extract to a large mixing bowl. Whisk all of the wet ingredients together until well combined.

Step Three: Now, you’ll add the gluten free oats, baking powder, ground cinnamon, and salt to the mixing bowl and stir until well combined.

Step Four: Lastly, fold the fresh blueberries into the oat batter.

Step Five: Transfer the blueberry oatmeal batter to a greased  baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes until the oatmeal is just almost set.

How to Serve

This baked oatmeal is perfectly good on its own but you can also add a drizzle of maple syrup for even more deliciousness. You can also top a slice with a dollop of plain or vanilla Greek yogurt, more fresh fruit, sliced nuts, and nut butter.

Baked Oatmeal Variations and Additions

  • Keep it dairy-free: if you need to keep this recipe completely daiy-free, feel free to use melted coconut oil or melted vegan butter instead of traditional butter.
  • Add your favorite nuts and seeds: baked oatmeal is incredibly easy to customize. Add in a few handfuls of chopped pecans, walnuts, or sliced almonds for a little crunch.
  • Use extra spices: if you want to increase the spices in this recipe go for it! A little ground ginger would be lovely or, if you love cinnamon, extra cinnamon would be great. I think a little nutmeg in this recipe would also taste great.
  • Add extra fruit: if you want to add more fruit to your baked oatmeal try adding handful of fresh raspberries, sliced banana, or even flaked coconut.

How to Store

Store the baked oatmeal in an air-tight container in the fridge for 4-5 days.

Can You Make Blueberry Baked Oatmeal Ahead of Time?

If you would like to prep this baked oatmeal in advance, you have a couple of easy options.

Option One: Because the oats will soak up all of the liquid in the batter, I do not recommend prepping the batter in advance and baking the next morning. Instead, I find it more helpful to prep all of the dry ingredients and all of the wet ingredients separately the night before.

To do this, add all of the dry ingredients to a mixing bowl, cover, and let sit on the counter. Next, whisk together all of the wet ingredients, leaving out the blueberries. Cover the mixture and place in the fridge.

The next day, when you are ready to make your baked oatmeal, just combine the wet and the dry ingredients, fold in the blueberries, and then transfer to a baking dish.

Option Two: The second option is my personal favorite which is to bake the oatmeal the night before and then reheat in the morning. You can reheat a slice of the oatmeal in the microwave for thirty seconds at a time.

Can You Freeze This Baked Oatmeal?

Yes! To freeze the oatmeal, let it come to a complete cool and then transfer to a freezer safe storage container. You can reheat the oatmeal in the oven at 350 degrees wrapped in foil until warmed through or in the microwave.

  1. My husband and I love this recipe! In fact I make a batch every week. I was thinking of changing it up a bit and using frozen strawberries instead of blueberries. Has anyone tried this? Wondering how the maple syrup and cinnamon will taste with strawberries? Should I make any modifications?

    1. Ashlea Carver says:

Hi, Dodi! I think that would be delicious! I also have a strawberry banana baked oatmeal on the site, too!

  2. Pamela A Ernst says:

I made this for our Sunday School class. They loved it. I used sugar free syrup and smart balance spread. It was delicious!! I also used frozen blueberries. It did have to be baked longer. I will be making it again.

  3. Fran geraci says:

It’s so delish and easy to make
I’ve been making it for the last 3 weeks and I refrigerated one small portions

  4. First time trying baked oatmeal and it blew me away. It was warm and satisfying. Adding just a touch of maple syrup once plated really brought it home!

  5. So delicious! I made this for the first time for a brunch with friends and we all gave it 10/10!

  6. Yum! After trying your apple cinnamon baked oatmeal I knew I needed to try this one too and it is so good! I usually don’t like baked oatmeal but I was really impressed with the flavor and texture of these. Not sure if this will apply to anyone else, but I make homemade almond milk and included the leftover pulp in this recipe and it added a yummy almond flavor without affecting texture.

  7. Ok. I don’t know what has taken me so long to hop on the baked oatmeal train. This recipe is delicious! I made it on Sunday to have for breakfast for the week. I immediately had to try some for dessert, it smelled so good baking! The cinnamon gives it great flavor. This dish is quick and easy and is not super sweet! I be adding this to my meal prep rotation for sure! Thank you!

I’m so happy loved the recipe, Monica!

  8. I love this recipe! It is so easy and quite versatile. The first time I made this recipe I made it as is, and everytime since then I’ve changed it up a bit each time. So far my favorite version is with peaches, blueberries, ground flax seed, walnuts and protein powder.

  9. I can’t stop eating this baked oatmeal!!! It’s the best!! I just tried it with Colorado peaches instead of blueberries and sprinkled a little extra cinnamon on top!! My husband and I have pretty much eaten the whole pan in one day!!!

  10. I’ve made this recipe twice now. I LOVE it so much. It’s a great meal to make ahead for a quick, easy, and delicious breakfast throughout the week. Even my husband who only likes eggs and bacon for breakfast loved this recipe. I’m also a new mom and love having oats for help with milk production. I’ve added a few tablespoons of flax and the taste doesn’t change at all. So glad I found ATHT on Instagram! Can’t wait to try more recipes!

I’m so happy to hear that, Jennifer! So glad that everyone has loved this recipe! The addition of the flax sounds wonderful! Thanks for taking the time to leave a review, and congratulations!

  11. I love this recipe! I am currently breastfeeding and wanted some healthier baked oatmeal. I made your recipe and added 2 tbs of flax meal and brewer’s yeast. It turned out great! Thank you for sharing.

  12. This was SO delicious! Everyone in the family loved it. So many blueberries and it was sweet enough. We will be making it again and again! Thank you Ashlea for the yummy recipe!

  13. I made a half batch of this because I had about a cup of blueberries to use and I cannot wait to try it in the morning! Next time I think I will bake the batter in individual serving cups so I don’t ruin presentation trying to move it to a traveling container LOL

  14. OMG this looks amazing. What a great idea to prep for the week!

  15. I used to think I didn’t like oatmeal. This recipe changed my mind! I usually make it the night before and then it’s ready to heat and eat in the morning. Also, I have found it still tastes delicious when needing to make egg/dairy free with flax ‘egg’ substitute and oil in place of the butter due to one of my child’s dietary restrictions. Also, because it’s always a gamble what kind of oats I actually have in the pantry. I can confirm both old fashioned/rolled oats and quick oats work well for this recipe!.

    1. Natalie Perkins (ATHT) says:

That’s great, Abby! I’m so glad that you were able to make this recipe work for you and your family! Thank you for taking the time to leave a review!

  16. Jessica Caffrey says:

So quick to pull together, and my kids think it’s dessert. Loving having leftovers of this to heat up and keep me fed throughout the week.
