Everything You Need to Know About the Key Ingredients

  • Bread: I love to use an Italian loaf for garlic bread but French bread will also work well. Use a 16-ounce loaf, and slice it in half, lengthwise, before you begin.
  • Butter: I highly recommend using unsalted butter so you have better control over the flavor. Let it soften to room temperature for easy mixing!
  • Garlic: you’ll need at least 6 fresh garlic cloves, but feel free to add more if you love super garlicky bread. Mince the cloves finely, grate, or crush them. Just make sure there are no large chunks.
  • Parsley: freshly chopped, this adds a pop of bright flavor that balances the richness of the butter and cheese.
  • Parmesan: the best garlic bread is always made with a little cheese! For the best taste and texture, buy a block of Parmesan and grate it yourself.

How to Make Homemade Garlic Bread In a Few Easy Steps

  1. Prep the garlic butter. Stir the butter, garlic, parsley, Parmesan, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  2. Butter the bread. Spread the butter on the cut side of the bread, and arrange the pieces cut side up on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. Bake. Transfer the bread to the oven, and bake just until the edges are golden and crisp. Cool slightly before serving, and enjoy!

My Favorite Pairings

Is there anything homemade garlic bread doesn’t pair well with? I’m known to serve it with everything! However, some of my favorite pairings include:

How to Store

Store: Allow leftover garlic bread to cool completely. Then, wrap it tightly in aluminum foil or transfer it to an airtight container and store in the fridge for up to 2 days.

Freeze: To freeze, wrap the bread (whole or in slices) in foil, and place it in a freezer-safe bag. Freeze for up to 3 months. For the best results, freeze before baking. Then, bake straight from frozen as directed, adding 5–7 extra minutes to the bake time.

Reheat: Wrap thawed bread in foil, and reheat at 350°F for 8-10 minutes or just until warmed through and crisp. Or, bake your homemade garlic bread from frozen, wrapped in foil at 350°F for 15-20 minutes. For extra crispiness, remove the foil during the last 5 minutes of baking.
