While traditional Italian-inspired meatballs are typically made with fattier meats and breadcrumbs (which are delicious!) they don’t have to be if you want to keep things on the lighter side. There are endless ways to create meatballs with leaner proteins and healthy fats, and you can even sneak in some veggies.

- When forming meatballs try using a cookie dough scoop to scoop the meatball mixture and then roll in between your hands. This makes things so much easier!
- Before rolling the meatballs lightly wet your hands to prevent the mixture from sticking.
- For perfectly cooked meatballs every single time use a meat thermometer to ensure that each meatball cooks all the way through.
- Want to make dinner time easy? Try making a double batch of your meatball mixture. After everything has mixed, but before scooping and rolling, transfer half the mixture to a freezer-safe storage container, and freeze for later. Then, all you have to do is thaw, scoop, and cook!
What Not to Do When Making Meatballs
- Not seasoning the meat – it’s important to mix seasonings in with the meatball mixture, not just add them on top. Otherwise, your meatballs will be bland!
